pale in the middle of the night
dbsk, jaejoong & yunho; pg; 209 words
i've been wanting to write this fic since the first time i heard this song, but it took until today to figure out what i wanted to do. i may end up writing more—different ficlets and/or a revision of this—because i have a lot of feelings about this song as it relates to the dbsk/jyj split, but we'll see how that goes.

The night before, Jaejoong meets Yunho in a seedy bar on the outskirts of Seoul. It's the type of place where people go to drink away their problems—if anyone recognizes them, they don't bother to say anything. Yunho orders them both cheap beer, a brand that neither of them have had since they were 17 and too young to be picky; and Jaejoong lets him because really, who is he to object? The least he owes Yunho is a grimace when he swallows.
They don't say much. There isn't much to say. The apologies have already been accepted; the formal reconciliation will come tomorrow. This night is for them. Jaejoong studies the tremble of Yunho's hand when he reaches for his drink, the twitch of his jaw when their eyes meet. Yunho allows these things to show, and Jaejoong offers himself up in return: palms out, legs uncrossed, hair pushed back from his face. He does not flinch away when their fingers brush.
The next day, Jaejoong puts on his best suit, the brand new one that's still creased and sharp at the shoulders, and sits across the table from Yunho as the lawyers squabble over wording. They do not speak. They do not look away from each other.
